ANATOMY OF THE ELBOW - 07/09/11
Riassunto |
The elbow joint functions in concert with the shoulder to position the hand accurately in space. Because the shoulder joint possesses a large range of motion in all three axes, the necessity for elbow motion is lessened. The elbow joint, therefore, has two axes of motion but with greater inherent stability. Of the three articulations in the elbow, the radiocapitellar and proximal radioulnar joints allow for supination-pronation, whereas flexion-extension occurs at the ulnohumeral joint. Elbow stability is the result of both the bony and the ligamentous anatomy.
