Summary

Background

Since the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic is not the first and will not be the last, pharmacists’ experiences during this period can be used to establish a more efficient healthcare system to face future pandemics.

Objective

This study aims to explore Iranian pharmacists’ experiences in pharmacies using the content analysis method.

Methods

In this qualitative study, a conventional content analysis approach was applied. Ten male and female pharmacists working in community pharmacies in Birjand, Iran participated using a purposeful sampling method. Semi-structured interviews were carried out for data collection. The data were analyzed using Graneheim and Lundman's method.

Results

Four categories and ten subcategories were extracted as follows: Multifaceted concerns of pharmacists (familial, economical, professional, and personal concerns), Non-compliance with protocols from occurrence to cause (facing non-compliance with protocols by clients, obstacles to complying with protocols in the pharmacy), Prevention from COVID-19 (protective equipment usage, designing protection rules), and Double reactions to COVID-19 (emotional and; practical reactions).

Conclusions

Pharmacists dealt with different concerns and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are one of the main primary care providers and need to be supported by the authorities to maintain their standard level of services.

Résumé

Contexte

Puisque la pandémie de COVID-19 de 2019 n’est pas la première et ne sera pas la dernière, les expériences des pharmaciens au cours de cette période peuvent être utilisées pour établir un système de santé plus efficace pour faire face aux futures pandémies.

Objectif

Cette étude vise à explorer les expériences des pharmaciens iraniens dans les pharmacies en utilisant la méthode d’analyse de contenu.

Méthodes

Dans cette étude qualitative, une approche conventionnelle d’analyse de contenu a été appliquée. Dix pharmaciens hommes et femmes travaillant dans des pharmacies communautaires à Birjand, en Iran, ont participé en utilisant une méthode d’échantillonnage ciblée. Des entretiens semi-structurés ont été réalisés pour la collecte des données. Les données ont été analysées en utilisant la méthode de Graneheim et Lundman.

Résultats

Quatre catégories et dix sous-catégories ont été extraites comme suit : Préoccupations multiformes des pharmaciens (préoccupations familiales, économiques, professionnelles et personnelles), non-respect des protocoles de l’occurrence à la cause (faire face au non-respect des protocoles par les clients, obstacles à avec des protocoles en pharmacie), prévention du COVID-19 (utilisation d’équipements de protection, conception de règles de protection) et double réactions au COVID-19 (réactions émotionnelles et pratiques).

Conclusions

Les pharmaciens ont fait face à différentes préoccupations et défis pendant la pandémie de COVID-19. Ils sont l’un des principaux prestataires de soins primaires et ont besoin d’être soutenus par les autorités pour maintenir leur niveau de services standard.
