The first study to carefully analyze margins of resection in radical prostatectomy specimens was published in 1983.27 Subsequently, a growing body of information concerning margins of resection has been published. For reasons that are detailed throughout this study, it is very difficult to compare data from one institution to another concerning margins of resection. This study presents the often diverse data and potential explanations for these differences.
