The anesthesia consultation in pediatrics must be done before any procedure performed under general or locoregional anesthesia. The first goal is to know the child and his or her medical background and thus establish the anesthetic risk. It also allows one to prescribe preinterventional tests if necessary. Information is given on the organization of the hospitalization, the outpatient conditions of hospitalization, the anesthetic technique planned, the possible complications depending on the child's background, and the conditions that may cause a nonurgent intervention to be postponed (intercurrent illness). The consultation concludes with the collection of the consent of the child and the parents authorizing the intervention.
