HIV infected women vulnerability for presenting sexual dysfunction: The role of sexual dysfunctional beliefs - 20/09/19

Summary |
Sexual dysfunctional beliefs probably affect sexual function, especially among HIV infected population who experience a great burden of stigma and discrimination. So this study was conducted as a novel investigation to examine this hypothesis. The present questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was carried out among 85 eligible HIV infected women referring to Imam Khomeini educational hospital (Tehran, Iran) between February 2017 and February 2018. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. In our setting we found significant relationship between total sexual dysfunctional beliefs score and female sexual dysfunction (P=0.03). After eliminating the role of confounding variables, we used logistic regression model and found total sexual dysfunctional beliefs score as the only component which significantly predicted female sexual dysfunction (OR=5.75, P=0.02). Our findings draw attentions to the importance of sexual dysfunctional beliefs among women living with HIV as a significant vulnerability factor for presenting female sexual dysfunction.
