Midwives and PND - 14/11/11
Thierry Robin [1]
Voir les affiliationsResearch has proved that depression is the major cause of disease-related disability among women in developed countries today. You may agree and then shrug thinking at first sight that midwifery and psychiatry do not have much interaction in common or do not address the same patients nor the same problems. Then again you might be slightly mistaken especially as regards postnatal depression (PND). A study done a few years ago in France and published online in 2009 clearly shows that midwives are key players in the early detection of young mothers at risk of developing PND. The following excerpts from that detailed survey demonstrate how multidisciplinary collaboration among medical staff can result in better health care for mothers and therefore for children and families at large.
