There are hundreds of lesions or diseases that occur primarily within the oral cavity. Lesions in the mouth are also associated with a variety of systemic diseases. These lesions may be useful adjuncts to the clinical diagnosis of a syndrome and occasionally can be the presenting sign or symptom of a systemic disease. This article discusses the more common oral lesions associated with extraoral disease.
