MEDICAL-LEGAL ASPECTS OF PRESCRIBING DURING PREGNANCY - 04/09/11
Résumé |
Prescribing for pregnant women involves considerations for both mother and fetus. When one thinks about medical-legal concerns in medicine, one thinks of malpractice risks, which is one of the subjects of this article; however, to those who are practicing physicians, the most important issue is the prevention of injury to the mother and the fetus. Considering that approximately 3% to 5% of all infants are born with a congenital or hereditary disorder,7 physicians certainly do not want to increase this adverse outcome frequency through the prescribing of drugs. Therefore, the real object of this article is reduction of preventable injury to pregnant women and to fetuses through informed prescribing approaches.
