Abstract |
Entomology is the study of insects but for convenience medical entomology is usually understood to include other medically important arthropods such as arachnids. Emerging arthropod-borne infections like West Nile virus and concerns about climate change and the spread of vectors have made medical entomology topical again, although it is a subject on the fringes of most people's expertise. Clinicians, laboratory workers and public health specialists are sometimes faced with unfamiliar questions. Although not really a substitute for specialist literature, the Internet may provide some quick answers. Medical entomologists themselves may use the Internet to learn about specialist institutes, societies and journals.
