Ambulatory perineural local anesthetic infusion: Portable pump and dosing regimen selection - 22/08/11
Abstract |
Postoperative analgesia is generally limited to 12–16 hours or less following single-injection regional nerve blocks. Postoperative analgesia may be provided with a local anesthetic infusion via a perineural catheter following initial regional block resolution. This technique may now be used in the ambulatory setting with the relatively recent introduction of small, portable infusion pumps. This article reviews both infusion pump and dosing regimen selection specifically related to ambulatory perineural local anesthetic infusion.
