Acute Citrullus colocynthis L. poisoning in a pregnant woman: about a case - 19/03/25
Abstract |
Poisoning by Citrullus colocynthis L., a plant known for its purgative and abortive properties, constitutes a medical emergency that can lead to severe digestive and systemic complications. We report the case of a 32-year-old woman, six weeks pregnant, who was admitted with bloody diarrhea after ingesting a decoction made from Citrullus colocynthis L. Her condition evolved with moderate hepatic cytolysis and intestinal inflammation, requiring symptomatic management and intensive monitoring. This case highlights the potential toxicity of this plant and underscores the importance of raising awareness about the risks associated with its traditional use.
