Cerebral herniation, arterial ischemia and the Kernohan-Woltman notch phenomenon - 08/11/24
Highlights |
• | The Kernohan-Woltman notch phenomenon consists of a hemiparesis involving the limbs on the same side of the triggering intracranial pathology, caused by compression of the contralateral cerebral peduncle against the tentorial edge. |
• | The pathophysiological role of arterial ischemia in this setting has not been studied in depth, but it could account for the variability in the morphology and extent of the mesencephalic lesions observed in association with the Kernohan-Woltman notch phenomenon. |
