Icepack-Induced transient vasospasm leading to acrocyanosis in an Indian blood donor: A rare occurrence - 20/07/24

Highlights |
• | A 23-year-old repeat regular Indian male blood donor had a transient episode of marked acrocyanosis (with a striking bluish hue) on exposure to the ice pack applied on both arms. |
• | On examination, his hands showed marked cyanosis of the fingers and were cold to touch. The radial and ulnar pulses were hypovolemic and felt weak, indicating compromised blood flow. |
• | Warm compresses and passive rewarming techniques were employed to alleviate the vasospasm and improve peripheral circulation. |
• | Although anxious, fortunately, the symptoms were resolved by warming the hands in front of a room heater. Currently, the donor is fine and free of any such symptoms. |
