P007 - The French version of the Missoulas Vitas Quality of Life Index in oncology palliative care setting: a cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric assessment - 20/04/23

Résumé |
Introduction |
The Quality of Life (QoL) is one of the most important goal to achieve in palliative care setting at the end of life (EoL). Few questionnaires are available in French to measure following multidimensional aspects of QoL: Interpersonal Relationships, Well-Being and Transcendence in cancer EoL patients. The objective if this research is to provide a French cross-cultural adaptation of the Reduced Missoulas Vitas Quality of Life Index (MVQOLI-15) and to measure its psychometric properties.
Methods |
Two successive multicentric studies were conducted in palliative care cancer patients at EoL. A dual panel approach was used to translate and evaluate the cultural face validity in a cross-sectional study. The expert group included linguists, psychologists and methodologists. After reconciliation, the final French version (Fr-MVQOLI-15) was administered in a larger cohort to assess the construct validity (convergent and divergent validity, correlational analyses and known-group comparisons), criterion validity (with EORTC QLQ-C15-PAL) and reliability (internal consistency and reproducibility).
Results |
In the primary study, 30 patients underwent the first version. The survey was rated “relevant” for 90% patients and the median time to complete was 10 minutes [5 to 40] and the final Fr-MVQOLI-15 was obtained. One hundred seventy seven patients were prospectively included in the second study. The item-convergent and divergent validities were not supported by correlational analyses. The total Score was correlated with the Global QOL item from Fr-MVQOLI-15 (rho=0.41, 95%CI: 0.27, 0.53). The total Fr-MVQOLI-15 score was not different across Performance status group and was lower in patient with poor QoL assessed by QLQ-C15-PAL. The Criterion validity was presented in Table 1. The Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency was 0.37 and the Intraclass correlation Coefficient for reproducibility was 0.714.
Conclusion |
We provide a French MVQOLI-15 version that reached face validity and good reproducibility. Our results do not support the complete construct validity nor internal consistency, which leads us to have reservations about its use in clinical research. It may be a useful clinometric tool for cancer patients at the end of life in palliative care settings.
