Mapping Asian American minority stress research: A bibliometric study - 02/04/23
Summary |
Background |
Investigations into minority stress have grown considerably since the civil rights movement, and research into social issues among Asian Americans has especially developed since the emergence and formalization of Asian American studies before and during the late 1970s. Reflective of the nature of Asian American studies, one defining feature of investigations into minority stress among Asian Americans is the contribution of many disciplines to produce unique, interdisciplinary insights into the Asian American experience.
Methodology |
This paper aims to further facilitate the generation of interdisciplinary insights through an exploratory bibliometric analysis of research on Asian American minority stress across the broad academic landscape. Using the Web of Science database, this exploratory bibliometric analysis produces accessible visualizations and determines essential characteristics of publications related to Asian American minority stress.
Results/Discussion |
Within the framework of Web of Science's classification of research areas, Social Sciences produce more publications related to Asian American minority stress than do Life Sciences and Biomedicine, Arts and Humanities, Technology, and Physical Sciences. Predictably, through a wide range of US-based universities, United States affiliated authors produce the most research on Asian American minority stress and collaborate with authors affiliated with both Asian and non-Asian countries.
Conclusion/Perspectives |
Overall, findings in this publication support previously made calls to further diversify the scope of investigations into minority stress among Asian Americans and to implement considerations of heterogeneity among Asian Americans due to differences in ancestral and ethnic, transnational histories.
