Highlights |
• | Genomes from 3 different countries form a distinct lineage A.2 of the monkeypox virus. |
• | Lineage A.2 is distinctly different from the B.1 lineage linked to the European outbreak. |
• | A.2 genomes have 16 genetic variations which are not found in other lineages. |
• | Lineage A.2 has a median tMRCA of 25 June 2021 and a lower nucleotide substitution rate than B.1 lineage. |
• | Cases associated with A.2 lineage were linked to travel to either Nigeria or the UAE. |
Keywords : Monkeypox, 2022 Outbreak, Lineage A.2, Lineage B.1
