Aneuploidy underlies paradoxical growth of rezafungin and enables cross-tolerance to echinocandins in Candida albicans - 29/11/22
Highlights |
• | There is paradoxical effect for rezafungin, a new echinocandins drug under development, in Candida albicans lab strain SC5314. |
• | Most adaptors which survived from high concentrations of rezafungin remained susceptible to rezafungin. A few adaptors gained tolerance to rezafungin and cross-tolerance to other echinocandins drugs. |
• | The echinocandins-tolerant adaptors had diverse genome changes. Among the five types of aneuploidy found in these adaptors, segmental monosomy of chromosome R was predominant and was recurrently selected at different concentrations of rezafungin. |
