Summary |
Background |
Stroke is the world's leading cause of mortality and morbidity. The increasing burden of stroke strongly implies that the currently applied primary stroke prevention strategies are not fully effective and that new primary prevention strategies with significant target sizes are needed. The rapid growth of mobile health (mHealth) technology currently provides the greatest potential to reduce the burden of stroke by increasing awareness amongst patients, who are at risk of the condition. However, it is crucial to recognize the reliability of mHealth applications before they are implemented worldwide.
Methodology |
A comprehensive search of databases was conducted from various search engines and the selected studies were critically evaluated to extract and summarize their findings related to the effectiveness of mobile applications for primary stroke prevention.
Discussion |
A total of 31 articles were identified and screened, whereby six articles were found suitable for this review. Three studies demonstrated encouraging outcomes of mobile applications in primary stroke prevention, while the results of the other three studies were inconclusive. The use of mobile technology in the healthcare system opens up new opportunities for healthcare advancement.
Conclusion |
It is therefore crucial to address a comprehensive preventive approach via mobile technology that can effectively increase awareness and lead to lifestyle changes, which will lower the risk factors for stroke in future generations.
