Summary |
Introduction |
Older adults are significant consumers of health care, and ageist stereotypes against them have a crucial impact on the equality of life in aging. This study investigated ageism among health care professionals and nurses.
Methodology |
In this cross-sectional study, 145 health care professionals and 200 nurses were selected using a stratified sampling method in Kerman, Iran. Data collection tools included: a sociodemographic questionnaire and Kogan's attitudes toward older adults.
Results |
The mean age of health care workers and nurses was 41.06±28.61 and 35.80±8.03 years, respectively. The scores of staff's attitude towards aging indicated that most of both groups had a positive attitude towards aging.
Discussion |
It is necessary to pay attention to improving the attitude of health care workers towards aging to facilitate the change of professional behaviours, which improve the quality of health care for the elderly.
