Summary |
Research integrity (RI) primarily focuses on the reliability of the research work, communication between actors and with the general public, promoting a sense of responsibility in the collective work, and impartiality and independence in the evaluation and expertise. Building a community of integrity can only be done by many people because it is a matter of building a research environment that would protect researchers from attempts to breach scientific integrity. Recently, a new field of studies for improving the ways of doing good research called Research on research, or Meta-research, is rapidly expanding. The academic freedom enjoyed by universities includes freedom of teaching, research and expression. Then, academics may be judged only by their peers in cases of disciplinary misconduct. However, within the scientific community, links may be hidden, institutional or instituted, and transparency does not guarantee clarity of commitment. Problematic linkages are those that will create interference between public and private interests that will influence or appear to influence a public decision. In this context arises the question of whistle-blowers, which is addressed in part in this paper. Also, it questions us on how to organize the teaching on RI by promoting a bottom-up approach. At Université de Paris, the first pedagogical experiment took place in 2019–2020 and is reported in this article.
