Neurogenic disorders can affect communication abilities in children and adults. This article discusses a classification system of communication disorders for members of the rehabilitation team, explains the specific symptoms of each disorder, and offers suggestions for quick physician assessment. A discussion of contemporary issues involving clinical prognosis, neuroimaging, and treatment outcome measurements related to speech and language pathology also is included.
