This article reviews two hospital-based infant mental health programs, one located in a pediatric hospital, the other in a general psychiatric hospital. It describes the structures of the programs and the clinical populations served. Using case illustrations the authors demonstrate typical problems seen and describe diagnoses and types of interventions that are useful. Finally, there is a discussion of various difficulties encountered in working with infants and families.
