Summary |
A 26-year-old adult with well-documented cystic fibrosis, but with relatively mild pulmonary involvement, was severely disabled by frequent severe attacks of abdominal pain and constipation. Treatment by pancreatic enzyme replacement and regular enemas did not bring about long-standing improvement. One year ago oral administration of n-acetyl cysteine was instituted, and since then the patient has been asymptomatic except for one brief episode of abdominal pain 6 months ago.
