Primary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma occurring in the rectum - 18/08/11
Commentary Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma accounts for approximately one-third of colorectal lymphomas. It is unclear if extragastric MALT is related to Helicobacter pylori, and there are reports of MALT lymphomas regressing after treatment for H. pylori even if such infection is absent. Because colorectal MALT lymphoma is slow to spread, local therapy, as in the present case, is reasonable. Lawrence J. Brandt, MD Associate Editor of Focal Points |
